Track & Field Wins Two Distance Events To Open Season

first_imgIOWA CITY, Iowa – The Drake University track and field team opened up its 2018-19 indoor season with a pair of wins in the men’s mile and 3,000 meters Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Jimmy Grant Open in Iowa City, Iowa.Competing against Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois State and UNI, the Bulldogs collected a total of 12 top-five finishes to open the season.A pair of distance runners led the way for the men as Kevin Kelly (Kilcok, Ireland) won the mile in 4:09.99 while Joshua Yeager (Center Point, Iowa) won the 3,000 meters in 8:32.15.Kelly’s win led a trio of Bulldogs in the top five as Matt Cozine (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and Rylee Miller (Jefferson, Wis.) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the mile.The women’s team had similar success in the 3,000 meters with Rachel Selva (Lenexa, Kan.) finishing third in 10:22.63 while Olivia Rogers (Centennial, Colo.) came in fifth.In the sprints, Kundai Maguranyanga (Glen Norah C, Zimbabwe) opened his season by taking second in the 300 meters in 33.52.
