This will allow PS4 users to play Fortnite with players on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. This announcement is somewhat shocking considering how Sony seemed disinterested in such a feature.“Following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third party content,” said John Kodera on the PlayStation Blog. “We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution.“The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.”AdChoices广告Kodera went on to say that Sony recognizes the desire for cross-platform play. It also appears this will not be a one-time occurence, as Kodera said Sony looks to open up the platform in the future. This is a big change in Sony’s policy when it comes to cross-platform play. Originally, the company all but dismissed the notion, saying that PS4 had the larger install base and that PS4 was the best place to play Fortnite. It appears the outcry from the gaming community made Sony have a change of heart. It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here. If Fortnite has cross-platform play, will titles like Call of Duty, Overwatch, Battlefield, and others implement the feature? It looks like this is all but inevitable.
